High Reaching Solutions got a call to supply a cherrypicker to assist with the restoration of an old conservatory at the YHA at Whitby Abbey. It must be able to go through a doorway was a specification.
On surveying the site, the door that had been mentioned was approximately 5ft high, 2ft wide and opened into a 2ft wide alleyway with a tight 90-degree turn just through the opening. People were obviously smaller when they built Whitby Abbey! There must be another way to get to the work area?
On taking a walk around the building grounds the route that the cherry picker would have to go included narrow paved areas, sharp turns, lose gravel areas, pedestrian areas, a picnic area, slopes, archways with steps onto slopes and more gravel paths with gates.
After seeing the route in its entirety the only main obstacle was the stone arch, which had a downward slope on the approach and on the other side had a step down onto a sloped left to right uneven gravel path which was approximately 16ft wide.
After taking many measurements and thinking through the process of how it could be achieved, Scarlett Grace, High Reaching Solutions 13m tracked spider hybrid cherrypicker was chosen for the task. As you can see from the accompanying photos, going through the arch was very tight.
